Local fishers, seafood company representatives, researchers and other stakeholders are set to gather in Suva, Fiji from June 18-22, 2012 for the second Coral Triangle Fishers Forum. The event is expected to bring together approximately 100 participants to identify strategies and models for effective partnerships on seafood traceability, reducing illegal, unregulated and unreported (IUU) fishing and achieving long-term sustainability and security in the seafood sector. The event aims to provide a venue for participants to share experiences on improving traceability, including catch documentation, technologies and their anti-IUU fishing characteristics from Coral Triangle and regional fisheries, identifying obstacles, key issues and priorities, among others. The event is also expected to further cultivate the CTI-CFF as a platform for regional dialogue and multi-stakeholder consensus building on sustainable fisheries to contribute towards delivering the goals of the CTI Regional Plan of Action and related Western and Central Pacific initiatives.
