CTI-Solomon Islands’ Key Partner in MPA Development Granted Charitable Trust Status
The Solomon Islands Locally Managed Marine Areas Network (SILMMA) was recently registered as a charitable trust.
SILMMA is a partnership of marine resource organizations, both government and non-government (NGOs and community groups), that have joined together to ensure effective management of marine resources in Solomon Islands. It is a key mechanism for marine protection in Solomon Islands and the main resource for the Solomon Islands CTI-CFF National Coordinating Committee (NCC) on the nomination of sites to the Coral Triangle Marine Protected Area System (CTMPAS).
Mobile Device Fisheries Program in Solomons Wins Science and Technology Prize
Fishing communities and vendors in the Solomon Islands are using mobile phone technology to develop a real-time database to manage their fish stocks as part of a project recently named one of the Grand Prize winners in the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Science and Technology Pioneers Prize contest.
The Pioneers Prize recognizes the best USAID projects and activities that successfully apply science and technology to solving development challenges.
Coral Triangle Countries Set to Begin Nominations for Regional MPA System
Member countries of the Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries and Food Security (CTI-CFF) are moving closer to finalizing the framework for the Coral Triangle Marine Protected Areas System (CTMPAS), setting the stage for the launching of the CTMPAS and the first round of nominations for CTI regional flagship sites.
