The first editions of the State of the Coral Triangle Report are now available for free downloading here, or from the Coral Triangle Knowledge Network website (external link).

Launched on May 13 at the sidelines of the World Coral Reef Conference in Manado, Indonesia, the series includes a Regional State of the Coral Triangle Report and six corresponding country-level State of the Coral Triangle Reports that identify key issues decision makers must address if sustainable development of the Coral Triangle’s coastal and marine resources is to be achieved.

The Regional State of the Coral Triangle Report summarizes each country’s biophysical and socioeconomic characteristics, as well as their institutional framework for governing marine resource use. This helps to identify the drivers of the environmental pressures that threaten sustainable development of the Coral Triangle’s marine resources and to formulate a monitoring and evaluation system for gauging the success of the six CTI-CFF Member Countries in achieving sustainable marine resource management, both individually and collectively.

Each country report provides general information on the status of biophysical characteristics; governance; socioeconomic characteristics; and threats to, and vulnerabilities of, the coral reef ecosystems of a particular country, and describes that country’s progress toward the conservation and sustainable use of these ecosystems.

The reports are “living documents” and will be updated over time as the countries jointly address the various issues confronting them individually and as a group. The first editions provide the baseline data and information for monitoring the countries’ progress in achieving the goals and higher-level outcomes of the CTI.
