Annual Threatened Species Technical Working Group Meeting
About This Event
As the result of the first Threatened Species Working Group Meeting in Putrajaya, Malaysia on March 2017 and second Threatened Species Working Group Meeting in Quezon City, Philippines on 24-26 April 2018, the TSWG agreed to develop a pool of experts on threatened species particularly on marine turtles, sharks and rays and marine mammals to provide technical guidance and support to the TSWG as it strives to achieve the targets of Goal 5 of the Regional Plan of Action (RPOA). During the second TSWG annual meeting in Philippines, the TSWG has developed the draft TOR for the creation of pool of experts and draft of monitoring and evaluation indicators for Goal 5. Therefore, the third TSWG meeting will focus to finalize the draft TOR for the creation of a pool of experts on threatened species and draft of the TSWG M&E indicators. Along with the finalization of the regional conservation plan of action, the third annual TSWG meeting also will evaluate the implementation of TSWG workplan 2019 as agreed in SOM 14 December 2018 in Philippines. The Meeting will also provide an opportunity for the TSWG to develop their draft Workplan and Budget 2020 towards preparation for Pre-SOM and SOM 15th in Solomon Islands (i.e. the 2020 workplan)
Objectives
The third annual TSWG working group is aiming to evaluate the implementation of TSWG workplan for 2019 and also to finalize the Monitoring and Evaluation( M&E) Indicators for Threatened Species Region-wide Assessment Report and to formulating the Region-wide Conservation Plan for Marine Mammals, Sea Turtles and Sharks and Rays.
